The way we teach it: think about what the tissue will do to the gel — shearing, compression, gravity, stretch from muscle — and match the product to that. • G' (elasticity/'firmness'): a higher G' gel is denser and holds its shape against pressure, so it suits deep, structural work on bone — cheeks, chin, jawline. A lower G' gel is softer and more flexible, so it suits soft, mobile areas like lips and fine lines. • HA concentration (typically ~4.5–30 mg/ml across products): broadly associated with longevity, but it interacts with cross-linking and isn't a simple 'more = better' rule. • Cross-linking is what turns liquid HA into a gel that holds shape and resists breakdown. Big caveat: these relationships are general teaching aids — always check the specific product's own data and licensed use, because rheology values aren't directly comparable between manufacturers. Pick a small product range, learn how each behaves in the hand, and choose by area and depth.
The 'high G' for structure (cheek/chin/jaw), low G' for soft mobile areas (lips)' shorthand is exactly how I choose day to day. Just don't put a firm structural gel superficially in a mobile area — that's how you get lumps and a hard feel.
